Aqueous sodium-ion battery research on the rise

Two month ago I finished the draft “Current and future sodium-ion battery research“, a review on sodium-ion battery research. I developed a great interest in the leading researchers in this field. I became aware of great research groups i.e. in Singapore and Berkeley (more cited in the review). Furthermore I found an inspiring TED talk by Jay Whitacre (Professor at Carnegie Mellon) on his research on the aqueous sodium-ion battery.

Already before, I was interested in a rather simple solutions for energy storage which are globally scalable. I was delighted when I read that Jay Whitacre’s start-up  Aquion Energy recently (in April 2013) raised 35 million US Dollar financing. One of the investors is Bill Gates who targeted energy storage as the future challenge before and already invested in other ambitious energy storage start-ups like LightSail Energy (
